I'm not very much into politics, but I don't see what people talk about it like it's between democrats and republicans only.... There are a few other parties out there, right? But like I said, I'm not very much into politics and I might have gotten something wrong

There are many other parties, but the only parties represented in American politics is Democrats and Republican. There are multiple parties. That's actually one of the reasons for this site is to represent independent ideas rather than just the ones seen in the news. What I think would be interesting is a government with people's party affiliation secret and they can only release there policy for each issue. Of course there are flaws with this. Since you could just tell there party because of there ideas but it is an interesting thought. But yeah there are multiple parties.

The reason why most people believe that there are only two parties is because of the fact that those two parties generate a lot of funds and are able to parade their candidates around more than what we call third parties. It also doesn't help that the media never talks about these third parties.

You aren't to blame. It's thanks to this two party system that people feel trapped. There are other parties, but they have little to no power but with the 2016 election, there's hope for Third Parties. I'll shine some light.
Third Parties: Green Party; Jill Stein headed the ticket with Ajamu Baraka as her running mate. The Green's are, dare I say, a hippie platform. They value peaceful resolutions to foreign policy and a main point of theirs was ending the drone program. They're focused on bringing the United States into a renewable energy golden age.
Libertarian Party; former New Mexico governor Gary Johnson headed the ticket with Bill Weld. Definitely more focused on small government and little government intervention especially in the economy (free market). Focus on freedom of the individual including drug use.
Then last but not least is the Constitution Party headed by Darrell Castle with his VP pick Scott Bradley. It's basically the Libertarian Party but more focused on upholding the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.
Personally I am against party loyalty and prefer to focus on the individual candidate themselves. Party loyalty gets the country into a mess.

If people based only on the party that they affiliate with, they won't look at the policies that candidates are trying to implement which could lead to someone who might not care about the US coming to power.

Precisely Shadow, Party politics sets a dangerous precedent. Slogans like "vote blue no matter who" agitated me greatly during the election season. The more people that look at the policies rather than the candidate, the better.

Precisely Shadow, Party politics sets a dangerous precedent. Slogans like "vote blue no matter who" agitated me greatly during the election season. The more people that look at the policies rather than the candidate, the better. Even though I am not of voting age, during this past election I looked at the policies of the different candidates and I found that even though I am slightly more Democratic than Republican, I was hoping that either Marco Rubio or Ben Carson would win the election as their policies were the best out of everyone's.
